A natural connector:
the ribera forest
Món Sant Benet is located in a breathtaking natural environment. Next to the meander of the river Llobregat is the Ribera Forest, which helps to naturalise the river, make the area more resilient to floods and improve biodiversity and ecological water quality. It is a natural connector between the river dam, the meander and our vegetable gardens.
A fish passage
in the meander of Món Sant Benet
The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, responsible for the facilities, promotes projects linked to preserving the region’s fauna and flora.
Specifically, in the vicinity of Món Sant Benet, it has promoted the construction of a fish passage on the lock of the river Llobregat, between Sant Fruitós de Bages and Navarcles.
The aim is to facilitate the mobility of fish and other river animals such as turtles, crabs, otters and various insects.
What is
What is
a fish passage?
The constructions of locks usually create discontinuities in the waterways making it difficult for and impeding the mobility of the fish. To avoid this, with a view to making the fauna richer at these points, the so-called river connectors, known as fish ladders or fishways, are usually built. These connectors gradually gain ground and help the fish to overcome the infrastructure.
The Món Sant Benet fish passage is also implemented with an informative aspect for visitors, offering a specific access to the ramp from carrer Ubac in Navarcles.
The aim is for the fish ramp, fully integrated into the natural environment of Món Sant Benet, to be marked with a series of interpretive panels so that, in the long run, educational actions can be carried out that give visibility to it and place value on it.
